Buying Toning Bands
What are Toning Bands?

Bands are wafer thin strips of rubber – generally manufactured in a constant process and
available as rolls or in pre cut lengths.   The best known brands of cut length band for sports
and fitness are ProBandTM,  DynaBandTM and TherabandTM .  These are typically cut into
lengths for sports training of between 1.2m and 1.4m band for exercise.

Rolls of band will normally be more economic than single lengths to buy provided you require
multiple lengths of the same thickness.   Pro Active branded BUDGET BAND comes in 18m rolls
of band matching the quality of the single length brands above.  18m rolls will provide 15
lengths.

How Durable are Toning Bands?

The quality, length, width and thickness of rubber all dictate the life of the product.  The
brands stated above are all designed for sports use other types of rubber band particularly
unbranded or those manufactured for physiotherapy (where prolonged usage is less important
than for sports).

Bands tend to have much shorter life expectency than tubing products and are particularly
susceptible to nicks and tears.   However if looked after well they are more economic and
more versatile than tubing products.

How versatile are Toning Bands ?

Toning bands are undoubtedly more versatile than standard tubing products although not as
versatile as the PROCLIPTM  tubing system.

The key benefits of toning band products relate to the fact that the band can comfortably
be used without handles.  This means that variations of band length can be achieved very
quickly.

Where handles are required  i.e. for use in some sports workouts, for certan therapy exercises
or for use with accessories such as the Break Apart Fit Stick,  it is possible to quickly attach
bands to specially designed handles.

What Strength of Band should I Choose?

Different manufacturers use different colour coding to signify the strengths of their products
so it is not possible to buy a colour of band and be sure of its strength.  The following chart
will therefore help as a guide to choosing your bands

LEVEL 1 :-        Is a very thin band with minimal resistance – it is ideal for pre and post natal
use, for the very unfit or for those participating in a rehabilitation programme that requires
minimal resistance.

LEVEL 2 :        The most commonly purchased level for exercise classes.  Level 2 bands
are ideal for most exercises for females of average fitness or keen exercisers in their later
years.

LEVEL 3 :-       The basic band for males of average fitness and regular female exercisers.
Exercise class teachers will typically purchase one Level 3 band for every two level two
bands bought.

LEVEL 4 :-       There is a large jump in resistance between Level 3 and level 4 bands
Level 4 bands are designed for female sports participants used to serious resistance
training and for keen male exercisers and sports participants.
